It was with much relief on Friday that I flipped the calendar over to February.
Just 31 days earlier, 2008 swept in with such promises and fresh beginnings. But it was an incredibly long, cold January. It snowed so often, we wondered what was wrong on days it didn’t. The temperatures hovered somewhere between zero and 20 most of the month.
The workplace is in transition and with a fresh batch of goals to tackle, I am struggling to find my place. I fell one pound short of my weight loss goal – which was two pounds. My personal life seems to have stalled on the tracks while the No. 35 Express picks up speed.
Friday morning, the sky was just a little brighter when I woke up, the earth just one fraction tilted closer to spring. I tore January off and tossed it away to show a picture of crocus poking their heads out of the ground.
February, that was God’s idea, you know. A fresh start every 30 days or so – actually, God doesn’t wait that long. Every 24 hours, He spins the earth around and pours out another helping of mercy.
We studied the parable of the prodigal son in Bible study this morning and I cried as we read the familiar passage. The father tells his selfish, rebellious son who comes back to confess that all is forgiven and he’s restored. Then he tells the older son not to worry, he knows all the hard work he has done and he’ll be rewarded.
A God who forgives all our faults and remembers all our efforts, no matter how small? Now that’s a God that I want to serve.
Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23
Wasn’t yesterday gorgeous? Today, it’s back to winter.
