You can get a lot of interesting things at the hair salon. I was there yesterday and I have bangs now, for the first time in several years.
I also got some good career advice. While waiting for my turn in the chair, I was talking to a lady who was celebrating her 20th year at a factory job she really didn’t like.
She said it would be better to do a job you loved and get paid less than do a job you didn’t like for more money.
She’s probably right. But I just kept thinking it would be nice if you didn’t have to choose.
If you could get paid a lot of money to do a job you loved, of course. I sure wouldn’t want to do a job I hated with lousy pay. But that’s the way some people have to make it in the world.
Just thinking about it made me feel better about going to work tomorrow at the newspaper office. Journalism is a notoriously low paying job, but, oh what a thrill to see your name in print! You can’t get that down at the cat-food factory.
Then, I went to look up the verse to put with this post. The first part is familiar, but the second part took me by surprise.
After I read it, I’m really excited to be able get up in the morning and go to work!
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might. For there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going. Ecclesiastes 9:10
