I overdrew my checking account today.
Oh, yeah, and they still let me write the business news!
It was not completely unexpected. My checkbook had been showing negative numbers for about a week, but knowing there was a little cushion in there, I kept swiping the debit card. I logged on at about 11:30 to see if there was enough “cushion” to run an errand over lunch.
That would be no.
The gas bill went through yesterday and chewed it all up, plus a little $20 fee the bank kindly withdrew for their troubles. I did run a little errand. Out to the bank to put everything in order.
“Would you like a print out of your activity?” the teller asked with a bright smile.
No, I knew exactly what activity had gotten me in trouble. She got the account lined out and even removed the $20 ding.
Driving back to work, I passed the sign at First Baptist Church. “Jesus paid a debt He didn’t owe.” Isn’t that just like God?
I do something stupid, running around like I’ve got a cushion of grace to catch me. Then it becomes clear I’m completely overdrawn. When I go to my Heavenly Father to confess, He pulls up the account and says its already been covered. The perfect sacrifice of His son has paid the debt.
First Bank of Grace, Now that’s Amazing.
When you were dead in your sins… God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having cancelled the written code with its regulations that was against us and stood opposed to us. He took it away, nailing it to the cross. Colossians 2:13-14
I found your blog on Yahoo and read a few of your other posts. Nice blog.
