It’s that wonderful time of year when sandals come out and toe nails get dressed up in nail polish.
As a “word person,” I will not buy a nail polish unless I like it’s name – the word that describes the color. Right now, I’ve got on a bright Twinkled Pink. When I’m feeling sassy, I’ll wear Hot Gossip. There’s Teak Rose when I’m more sedate.
Looking for a new shade for this summer, I scanned the selection at the store. I picked up one I liked, a pretty purple-pink, and read its name. Promiscuous.
That bottle went right back on the shelf.
How sad. Young women are given the idea that choices that can destroy their lives are cheery and fun. If I were making a nail polish for Promiscuous, it would be a heart-wrenching shade of black and blue, with deep, ugly stains that can only be removed by Red – The Blood of Christ.
If I were naming nail polishes, I would nominate names like Chastity. Innocence. Victory. Fair Maiden. Goodness. Life.
Don’t think for a minute these colors would be pale and bland. They’d be as rich and vibrant as the joys of a life fully lived in God’s goodness.
“Do not let your adornment be merely outward – arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel – rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.” I Peter 3:3-4
