Never have I been as hot and tired as I was on the mission trip to New Orleans.
Twenty-eight of us from Green Valley took part in the trip. We worked on several different houses, doing electrical, sheet rock and siding projects. We also got to experience true Louisiana weather. It rained every day and after one particularly heavy thunderstorm, the streets began to flood. But it quickly seeped away.
An even bigger task than restoring the damaged houses is repairing the many lives torn apart by Hurricane Katrina and the devastating impact sin always brings about. One woman I talked to said she tried to have faith, but it was just so hard.
It is, I agreed. Everywhere we see hurting and for this young mother, grief had been piled upon grief. But she discovered that Jesus really does offer new beginnings. The change that came over her just in the two days we knew her was phenomenal. And it made the whole hot trip worth it.
If any one is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, behold, all things have become new. II Corinthians 5:17
