In a recent Bible study, we have studied the Beatitudes. We looked at what these mean to us and I discovered how much they relate to Psalms 23. I wrote these descriptions linking the two.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when you are so bankrupt, you hold out your tin cup, begging for a drop of God’s grace.
Your cup will overflow with riches untold.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are you when your heart is tender and grieves at the pain sin has caused you and all God’s children.
The Good Shepherd will cradle you in His arms. His rod and staff will comfort you and He will wipe away your tears.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are you when you surrender your dreams and submit to God’s authority, even if it means walking through the dark valley.
You will have more influence than you ever imagined.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are you when you are no longer satisfied with the junk food this world offers, when you so hunger for true nourishment your belly button rubs up against your backbone and you cannot consume enough of His word.
God will prepare an abundant table before you.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are you when you let go of your hurts to dance in the joy of God’s forgiveness and invite others to join in.
Surely goodness and mercy will spring up like flowers wherever you walk.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are you when you pass through the fire and instead of growing bitter, allow it to consume your selfish motives.
God will lead you beside still waters and you will see His heart reflected in yours.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of God.
Blessed are you when you join hands with your brothers and sisters and lead them in singing praises.
Your Father will invite you to dwell in His house forever in the fellowship of His family.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when you become so much like Jesus, you share in His sufferings.
You will be guided in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake and share in His inheritance.
